Back to School Clothes Giveaway

Saturday, August 13, 2011 brought a crowd of adults and children to the eleventh annual Back to School Free Clothes Giveaway held at Kinport Assembly of God church on Rt 240, Cherry Tree.  The church was able to bless over 160 families in the community with new coats, shoes, book bags, hygiene packets, haircuts and school supplies. We had around 560 in attendance.  

Many thanks go out to the community including the Indiana Cosmetology Academy; a division of ICTC, S&T Bank of Indiana, United Way of Indiana, Sheetz of Clymer, and St Vincent DePaul of Northern Cambria.  Others in the church and community donated their time, money and clothes for this project.  The church board thanks everyone for their help; this project could not have been accomplished without it.

The giveaway was a great success and was needed as many people are in tight financial situations at this time.   It had a great impact on children and families of our community.  Parents were so appreciative and said they wouldn’t have been able to provide for their children without this. The smiles of the little children as they left with their treasures were a great blessing.  We wish everyone a good school year and hope to continue with the giveaway again next year.
